NEW DELHI:
India, the world's second-biggest producer of rice, wheat, sugar and cotton, will wait until August to review its export policy on farm commodities, as by then the monsoon scenario will be clearer, Food Minister K.V. Thomas said on Wednesday.

India has allowed sugar, wheat, rice and cotton exports after producing a bumper harvest last year.

But below average monsoon rainfall so far this season has raised concerns over food supplies in the south Asian country and has started to fuel prices of some food articles.

India is considering the imposition of stock holding limits for some commodities to curb price rises, Thomas said.

The monsoon in India has been 22 per cent below average since the four-month season began on June 1, according to latest data.

India's headline food inflation in June rose 10.81 per cent from a year ago period as prices of vegetables and pulses rallied.
