NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday clamped down on transportation of iron ore and manganese from Goa, while ruling that the ban on mining in the state will continue.
A three-judge bench passed the order on a petition filed by Goa Foundation, which had alleged that mining was still being carried out under the garb of transporting ores . The Goa government had on September 10 imposed a ban on all mining activities in the state after a commission headed by retired Supreme Court judge MB Shah found irregularities in mining operations. The counsel for Goa Foundation told the court that chief minister Manohar Parrikar has hinted that the ban on mining would be lifted by Diwali.
